Wilmington North Carolina  & The Cape Fear Coast

Wilmington and the Cape Fear coastal area is the center of economic, cultural, social and recreational activity for southeastern North Carolina.  Although the Cape Fear area and its island communities are most noted for the pristine and uncrowded beaches,  the city of Wilmington, the Cape Fear river, and the surrounding areas are drenched in history dating back to before the 1720's.

The early history of Wilmington in the 18th century includes exciting stories of settlers, Indians, explorers, and pirates. The 19th century Cape Fear area grew economically from its trade of agricultural products and shipping ports.  The Civil War was fought all around this area as well.

Modern day Wilmington and Cape Fear is home to industries such as General Electric, PPD, light manufacturing, as well as a continued use as a major area shipping port.   Film making adds to this area aready rich in arts and entertainment, by bringing in millions of dollars a year in revenue.  Movies, TV movies, commercials, and documentaries are commonly seen being filmed around town.  The historical district of downtown riverfront Wilmington is a gorgeous and eclectic for films as well as shopping and touring art galleries.

Boating and fishing is a natural attraction for the area.  Charter boats and locals have plenty of options for the water sports.  Not only is the salt water fishing excellent, there are miles of freshwater rivers to fish and boat as well. The warmer weather of the Wilmington area allows for an extended season on the waters!

Educations opportunities are reflected in the acclaimed University of North Carolina at Wilmington with an expanded nursing, business, and arts program in addition being a top facility for the studies of marine biology.  Cape Fear Community College is an excellent and ever expanding institution offering degrees as well as transfer courses.
